I have a gift for all the pitchfork-wielding Luddites who despise anything remotely related to artificial intelligence. Meet “Finlay MacKay – He Hates AI”!
Finlay MacKay is an angry man, with bulging principles, and an almost Tourettes-like tendency to blurt out stock objections to even the most painstakingly crafted AI films. Here he goes:
Tragically for Finlay MacKay, he is entirely AI-generated (by me), and has an unfortunate tendency to morph without warning into improbable objects. Given his self-righteous indignation at all this new-fangled technology, this is highly embarrassing for him. Poor bloke.
A lot of Finlay MacKay’s troubles are down to genetics; his ancestors were like this too. Here is an AI-reconstruction of his great, great-grandfather getting his knickers in a twist about the invention of photography. As a devotee of watercolour painting, he thought cameras were the devil’s work, and went on to dismiss cinema as “inauthentic slop”.
A five-minute creative AI film may have taken three weeks to make, and it may well have involved a combination of skilful human writing, directing and editing, and the expert use of nine different AI tools, but certain online “pitchforks” will immediately dismiss it as “slop”.
Now, I get that some automated, repetitious content on social media sites may well merit that term, but that intricate AI film was not automated. Unlike the “pitchfork’s” kneejerk blurt, which was as thoughtless and instantaneous as an automated response. Pitchfork, you sir are the slop.
